Aerial lifts give maintenance teams a dependable way to reach overhead systems, access elevated areas, and move efficiently through busy buildings. Instead of relying on time-consuming scaffolding setups or unstable ladders, technicians can position themselves quickly and work from a stable, secure platform. This shift allows facilities staff to complete more tasks in less time while maintaining steady control over every stage of the job. The result is fewer delays, smoother workflows, and a maintenance process that keeps buildings operating safely and consistently.

Safety is one of the most significant advantages aerial lifts bring to facilities maintenance. Working at height is a routine part of managing lighting, HVAC components, groundskeeping, and building systems, and ladders can limit stability in these situations. Aerial lifts provide a secure platform that helps technicians maintain proper balance, avoid overreaching, and stay positioned exactly where they need to be. This reduces the risk of falls and minimizes strain during repetitive or physically demanding work, creating a safer environment for both staff and building occupants.

Aerial lifts help maintenance teams move through daily tasks with far less setup time. Instead of assembling scaffolding or repositioning ladders repeatedly, technicians can transition from one area to the next with minimal interruption. This efficiency is especially useful in environments where multiple repairs or inspections are required in a short period. The ability to reach various points quickly without repositioning the lift allows teams to complete lighting changes, filter replacements, cleaning, and general upkeep in a more streamlined and productive workflow.

Many facilities include narrow hallways, atriums, indoor pools, and areas that are nearly impossible to access with traditional equipment. Compact aerial lifts, like the CTE TRACCESS line, are designed exactly for these challenges. Their smaller footprint and narrow tracks allow maintainers to move through doorways and aisles, while their hybrid/bi-energy power enables quiet and emission-free use. With extensive, unrestricted outreach, they can reach fixtures such as lights above pools or high atrium ceilings without disturbing operations. This makes them one of the most versatile lift solutions for facilities.

Certain maintenance tasks require careful movement and precise placement, especially when working around sensitive equipment, wiring, or mechanical systems. Aerial lifts offer smooth, controlled maneuvering that helps technicians reach the exact spot they need without overextending or risking accidental contact with surrounding structures. This precision supports detailed work like installing fixtures, adjusting HVAC components, repairing signage, or handling electrical connections, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and without unnecessary disruption.

We know how tough it is to handle tree work in hard-to-reach spaces. That’s why compact tracked lifts from CTE North America give crews safe, efficient access where bucket trucks can’t.

Tree care companies face a unique challenge when jobs take them into areas with limited access. Narrow driveways, fenced backyards, and carefully landscaped spaces can make it nearly impossible to bring in a bucket truck without causing damage or slowing the job. For these situations, compact tracked lifts provide a safe and efficient alternative. At CTE North America, our lineup of

These access challenges are more common than many realize, and they can slow down even the most experienced crews. Bucket trucks often can’t fit through gates or narrow driveways, forcing crews to climb the tree manually; and even when they do fit, maneuvering them through yards can cause property damage. This is where the design of a compact arbor lift makes all the difference, offering the ability to navigate tight areas without sacrificing height, stability, or safety.

Tree work doesn’t always happen in wide open spaces. More often, crews are called to prune or remove trees tucked behind fences, positioned along tight property lines, or standing in yards with limited entry points. These situations create real obstacles for traditional heavy equipment like bucket trucks, which may be too wide or too heavy to access the site.

Beyond the difficulty of getting machinery in place, restricted access adds risks and inefficiencies. Crews may spend extra time setting ropes, manually climbing, or dismantling trees piece by piece just to work around the space. In addition to slowing the job, this approach can increase fatigue and exposure to hazards. For many companies, the challenge is not the tree itself but simply finding a way to reach it safely and efficiently.

Compact tracked lifts are designed with tight spaces in mind, giving arborists the ability to get into areas that bucket trucks simply cannot reach. With widths that narrow down to just 32 inches, these machines can pass through standard gates and maneuver along side yards or garden paths without disruption. Once in position, their tracked design provides stability on uneven ground and helps distribute weight to protect lawns, driveways, and delicate surfaces.

Lightweight construction is another advantage, reducing the risk of property damage while still delivering the height and outreach needed for demanding jobs. Our models offer vertical reach of up to 88 ft and horizontal outreach up to 46 ft, giving crews the flexibility to prune, remove, or inspect trees without frequent repositioning. By combining compact size with impressive working height, these lifts give tree care crews the confidence to complete difficult jobs safely, quickly, and with less manual strain.

Comparing Compact Lifts vs. Bucket Trucks

Bucket trucks are useful for many jobs, but they are not always the right fit when space is limited. Compact tracked lifts step in to solve challenges that traditional trucks can’t, giving tree care crews more options on tough sites.

           Key differences include:

Compact lifts narrow down to fit through gates and tight driveways where bucket trucks simply can’t go.

            Precision:

Operators can extend horizontally to reach over fences or nearby structures without needing to constantly reposition.

            Safety:

Instead of climbing or improvising when a truck can’t reach, crews can rely on outriggers and proportional controls built for arbor work.

            Efficiency:

Faster setup and reduced repositioning save valuable hours, especially on multi-tree jobs.
Property Protection:

With a low overall weight and a track-mounted design, our lifts reduce ground pressure and make the risk of lawn or driveway damage far less likely.

By switching from a bucket truck to a compact arbor lift for restricted-access sites, tree care companies can complete more jobs in less time while keeping crews and clients’ properties safe.

The true value of compact tracked lifts becomes clear once they’re put to work on the jobsite. Residential projects often present the biggest challenges, with trees located in fenced backyards or along narrow property lines. In these situations, a traditional bucket truck may be too wide or heavy to enter, leaving crews with time-consuming alternatives. A compact arbor lift, by contrast, can pass through gates, set up quickly, and reach the canopy without disturbing the property.

Urban jobs present another test, where alleyways, tight driveways, and busy streets often limit space. Compact lifts offer both vertical height and horizontal outreach to complete trimming or removals in places where trucks cannot operate. Even large open spaces such as golf courses and parks benefit from the use of tracked equipment. By distributing weight across the ground, these machines reduce the chance of turf damage while still delivering the reach needed for tall trees. With options ranging from 51 to 88 feet, tree trimming lifts for sale from CTE North America are suited to a wide variety of real-world scenarios, giving arborists the tools to handle demanding environments safely and efficiently.

Compact tracked lifts are designed with outriggers and proportional controls that keep the operator steady, even on uneven ground. This reduces the risks associated with climbing or balancing on ladders.

All CTE tracked aerial lifts can be towed without a commercial driver’s license, unlike traditional bucket trucks that typically require one. This simplifies transporting equipment between jobs and cuts down on administrative requirements.

These lifts significantly increase safety, especially when equipped with advanced technologies. However, it's important to remember that they are still machines and cannot assess all external factors.

Before using any mobile elevating work platform (MEWP), it’s essential to read the owner’s manual and all ANSI A92.22 regulations regarding class 1B lifts. Additionally, we recommend following these five steps to create a safer work environment:

           Pre-Operation Inspection’s Save Lives

It is crucial to perform an in-depth inspection of your tracked boom lift prior to operation. Check for any signs of damage, especially the structural components, and verify fluid levels. All issues much be addressed prior to use. Refer to your Owner’s Manual and/or manufacturer for specifics. All CTE lifts come with a QR code on the side of the machine taking you directly to the Pre-Start Checklist in the owner’s manual. Please note that a daily inspection is different from an annual inspection—all aerial lifts require at minimum an annual inspection at a certified service center.

Secure the free end of the lanyard to the designated rings in the basket or bucket. Always wear a hard hat when working beneath overhead hazards. Non-slip, steel toe footwear should also be worn when working in or around an aerial lift. Depending on the job site, additional PPE may be necessary. Always refer to the

Be sure to walk the route of your lift before operation. It is important to make note of any hazards including, but not limited to, uneven, soft, or slippery ground, extreme slopes, ditches, bumps, power lines and other overhead hazards. Continue to monitor your surroundings for hazards during aerial operations. Pay attention to the current and predicted weather conditions; CTE prohibits the use of aerial lifts in wind speeds over 28 mph (refer to your Owner’s Manual if using another brand).

           4. Keep Tracks In Wide

Many track-mounted aerial lifts are equipped with retractable tracks allowing the machine to become more narrow for increased access in tight areas. This feature is crucial for fitting through doorways and gates; however, the tracks must be put back in the wide position as soon as possible to prevent a rollover. Compact crawler boom lifts are top-heavy machines so decreasing the footprint of the tracks increases the chances of tipping over. Avoid any slopes, uneven or soft ground when traveling in narrow to help prevent a rollover.

           5. Have A Rescue Plan

Always make a rescue plan when working at height. In addition to the operator being appropriately trained, there needs to be at least one person on the ground trained on the equipment. In an emergency, it may be necessary for a grounds person to use a second controller (if applicable) and/or emergency controls. Please refer to ANSI 92.22.6.1.2.6 for specifics on rescue planning.
